Arendalsuka in Arendal
Arendalsuka is Norway's largest political and civic gathering week, held every August in the small coastal town of Arendal since 2012. Modeled on Sweden's Almedalsveckan, it brings politicians, businesses, unions, charities and government agencies together for hundreds of free public debates and stands. Party leaders are questioned directly, and the week has become an unofficial requirement for any organization wanting to be taken seriously in Norwegian public life.
Arendalsuka did not emerge from a single founder's vision so much as a long-circulating idea about what Norwegian public life was missing.
