The story

Vinjerock in Eidsbugarden/Jotunheimen

Vinjerock is a remote mountain music festival held at Eidsbugarden, 1,060 meters up at the edge of Jotunheimen National Park, reachable only by dedicated bus and shuttle since no private cars are allowed to the site. Named after poet Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, who built the first cabin there, it has run since 2006.

High in Jotunheimen, at a spot called Eidsbugarden on the shore of Lake Bygdin, the nineteenth-century Norwegian poet Aasmund Olavsson Vinje once built the first cabin in the area and gave the surrounding range of peaks the name it still carries today: Jotunheimen, home of the giants.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few music festivals ask this much of their audience just to arrive: Vinjerock sits inside Jotunheimen National Park with no road access, so ticket holders travel in on a dedicated bus from Oslo, Bergen, or Trondheim, or a shuttle from the Tyin parking area, with private drop-offs banned to protect the park and the shuttle system

02

The mystery stays covered

The site takes its name from Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, the nineteenth-century Norwegian poet who built the first cabin at Eidsbugarden and coined the name Jotunheimen for the surrounding peaks, tying a modern rock festival to Norway's Romantic-era nature writing

03

The city starts moving

Since its 2006 debut, the lineup has grown to include AURORA, Sigrid, and Karpe, staged against glacier-fed lakes and bare mountain rock
