Sildajazz Haugesund in Haugesund
Sildajazz is Haugesund's international jazz festival, held every year on the second weekend of August since 1987. Named after the herring that built the town's fishing economy, it has grown from four bands at its founding into roughly seventy bands and close to four hundred musicians across more than two hundred events.
Sildajazz started in 1987 with a modest ambition: four bands playing over a few days in Haugesund, a city on Norway's southwestern coast whose fortunes had long been tied to herring fishing.
