Birkebeinerlopet in Lillehammer
Birkebeinerløpet is the flagship trail run within Birken's Run with Birken weekend, held each June and described by the organizer as Norway's largest trail race. The main distance covers 21 kilometres through mountain and forest terrain in the Rena and Lillehammer area, drawing thousands of participants ranging from competitive runners to families, alongside other distances offered the same weekend including a 12-kilometre HalvBirken run and a 60-kilometre UltraBirken.
Birkebeinerløpet carries the same name and the same founding legend as Birken's much older ski race, but it is a distinct event: a trail run held in June as the flagship distance of the organizer's Run with Birken weekend, rather than a winter ski race or the separate Birkebeinerrittet mountain-bike race that also share the Birken branding.
