Polarjazz in Longyearbyen
Polarjazz bills itself as the world's northernmost music festival, held each year in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, on the first weekend of February since 1998. It times its concerts to the return of daylight after the polar night, staging performances in venues from the world's northernmost brewery to the world's northernmost church.
Longyearbyen sits further north than almost any permanently inhabited town on earth, and for a stretch of each winter it disappears into full polar night, weeks without the sun rising above the horizon at all.
