Markomeannu in Tjeldsund/Evenes
Markomeannu is a Sami cultural and music festival held in late July near the border of Tjeldsund and Evenes municipalities in northern Norway, at the Gallogieddi open-air Sami museum. Founded in 1999 by the Sami youth association Stuornjargga Samenuorak to celebrate the culture of the Marka Sami villages, it has run at its current site since 2002.
Along the coast where Tjeldsund and Evenes municipalities meet in northern Norway lies a stretch of villages that have long been home to the Marka Sami, a South Sami community whose traditions are distinct from those of Sami groups further north.
