Jashn-e-Nowruz Gilgit in Gilgit
Jashn-e-Nowruz is Gilgit's celebration of the Persian and Central Asian new year on 21 March, marked by pipe-band and scout performances, polo matches, cultural dance and shared meals across the Ismaili and Shia communities of Gilgit-Baltistan, observed in parallel across several neighboring districts on the same spring equinox date.
Twenty-first of March marks the spring equinox across a swathe of Asia stretching from Iran through Central Asia to the Pamirs, and in Gilgit-Baltistan it arrives as Nowruz, or Navroz, a new-year celebration observed with particular depth among the region's Ismaili and Shia communities.
