Silk Route Festival Gilgit-Baltistan in Gilgit/Hunza/Skardu
The Silk Route Festival, also called the Festival on the World's Roof, is a September celebration spanning Gilgit, Hunza and Skardu that brings together artisans, folk musicians and dancers from Gilgit-Baltistan alongside performers from China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, reviving the region's historic Silk Route links.
Gilgit-Baltistan's valleys sat for centuries at a genuine crossroads, where trade routes connecting South Asia, Central Asia and western China converged along paths that predate any modern national border.
