National Folk Festival Lok Mela in Islamabad

Lok Mela is Pakistan's largest annual folk festival, organized since the 1970s by the cultural institution Lok Virsa at its Shakarparian complex in Islamabad. Over roughly ten days each November, provincial pavilions bring together master artisans, folk musicians, and regional cuisines from all four provinces plus Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Since 1974, Lok Virsa, formally the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, has operated as Pakistan's dedicated institution for documenting and promoting the country's folk culture, an area that might otherwise be overshadowed by the country's political and religious life in public discourse.
