Qaqlasht Festival in Upper Chitral
Held each April on the alpine Qaqlasht meadows near Buni in Upper Chitral, the Jashn-e-Qaqlasht festival marks the arrival of spring with polo, archery, tug-of-war, and wrestling competitions, alongside Chitrali folk music played on sitar and dhol and displays of local textile, pottery, and woodwork crafts.
The Qaqlasht meadows sit at roughly 2,500 metres altitude near the town of Buni in Upper Chitral District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an expanse of high-altitude grassland whose name in the local Khowar language translates to dry plain.
