Melekeok State Fishing Derby in Melekeok
An annual sportfishing tournament tied to Melekeok State's Constitutional and Memorial Day observances, organized with the Palau Sport Fishing Association and drawing competing boat teams to Babeldaob's eastern coast for cash prizes on the biggest tuna, barracuda, wahoo, and marlin catches, followed by a public dockside weigh-in.
Melekeok, on the eastern coast of Palau's largest island of Babeldaob, is home to Ngerulmud, the country's small planned capital, and each year the state ties its Constitutional and Memorial Day observances to a competitive fishing derby run in partnership with the Palau Sport Fishing Association.
