Tufi Tapa Festival in Tufi
The Tufi Tapa Festival celebrates tapa, hand-beaten bark cloth made across parts of Oro Province including the Tufi fjords area, a technique found throughout the Pacific but produced with local plant sources and design traditions specific to Oro communities.
Tufi sits on a stretch of Oro Province coastline unlike anywhere else in Papua New Guinea, where ancient river valleys have drowned into narrow, steep-sided fjords reaching inland from the sea, a landscape that has made the area a known destination for diving and coastal tourism even as much of Oro Province remains lightly visited by international standards.
