Guaicuru Nemonde in Emboscada
Guaicuru Nemonde is the central masquerade tradition of Compania Minas, Emboscada, held July 22 to 24 in honor of patron saint San Francisco Solano. Promeseros wear feather costumes and carved masks recalling the indigenous Guaicuru people, dancing to drums, harmonica, and cymbals through a festival with Afro-Guarani roots.
In Compania Minas, a small district of Emboscada in Paraguay's Cordillera department, the days around July 22 through 24 bring one of the country's more visually striking and culturally layered festivals: Guaicuru Nemonde.
