Serenata de los Guaicurus in Emboscada
Serenata al Alba de los Guaicurues opens the annual San Francisco Solano celebrations in Compania Minas, Emboscada, at dawn on July 22. Guaicuru promeseros wear their feather costumes and masks for the first time each year, singing at the doors of the parish church before the main Guaicuru Nemonde festivities begin.
Before sunrise on July 22 each year, in the small Compania Minas district of Emboscada, in Paraguay's Cordillera department, a group of community members gathers outside the parish church dressed in costumes made of chicken feathers and wearing carved masks.
