Raymi Llaqta de los Chachapoya in Chachapoyas
Raymi Llaqta de los Chachapoya is a cultural festival held in Chachapoyas, capital of the Amazonas region, celebrating the pre-Inca Chachapoya civilization through theatrical reenactments, dance and regional cultural pride.
Chachapoyas, capital of Peru's Amazonas region, sits in a cloud-forest landscape between the Andes and the Amazon basin, an area once home to the Chachapoya civilization, a pre-Inca culture whose monumental stone architecture, including the massive fortress of Kuelap and cliffside sarcophagi and mausoleums, has earned them the popular nickname Warriors of the Clouds among Peruvian archaeologists and tourism promoters.
