Maraton Internacional de los Andes in Huancayo

The Marathon de Los Andes has linked the provincial capitals of Huancayo and Jauja across Peru's Valle del Mantaro every year since 1984, sending runners along the 42.195-kilometer course at an average altitude of roughly 3,200 meters. Local runner Hugo Gavino Salazar won each of the irregular first three editions before the route was fixed in 1988.

The Marathon de Los Andes began almost by accident, as a business anniversary gift to the Mantaro Valley.
