Festival de Orquideas de Moyobamba in Moyobamba
Moyobamba, capital of the San Martin region and known as the City of Orchids for the roughly 3,500 native orchid species found in the surrounding area, holds an annual orchid festival showcasing the flower alongside the city's colonial and Amazonian history. The event combines exhibitions of native orchid varieties with cultural and tourism programming tied to Moyobamba's identity.
Moyobamba was founded on 25 July 1540 by Juan Perez de Guevara, who named it Santiago de los Ocho Valles de Moyobamba, making it the first city established by the Spanish in the Peruvian Amazon and one of the oldest Spanish settlements east of the Andes.
