Ollantay Raymi in Ollantaytambo
Ollantay Raymi is a cultural festival in Ollantaytambo that celebrates the town's Inca heritage and the legend of Ollantay, the Inca general at the center of a famous colonial-era Quechua drama, through performance and community festivity.
Ollantaytambo takes its name from Ollantay, a legendary Inca general whose story survives today mainly through a Quechua-language drama first recorded in written form during the Spanish colonial period, though many scholars believe it preserves elements of an older pre-Hispanic oral tradition performed long before European contact.
