Kadayawan Festival in Davao City
Kadayawan is Davao City's August harvest thanksgiving festival, honoring the abundance of Mindanao's fruit, flowers and other produce as well as the region's indigenous tribes, through street dances, floral floats and displays of durian and other local crops grown across the surrounding Davao region and its highlands.
Kadayawan Festival grew out of an older Davao tradition of tribal gatherings and harvest celebrations among the indigenous peoples of the surrounding region, including the Bagobo, Mandaya, Mansaka, Ata, Matigsalog and other groups whose ancestral homelands surround Mount Apo and the broader Davao area, who traditionally offered thanks for a bountiful harvest through dance, chant and ritual.
