Kalivungan Festival in Kidapawan
Cotabato province observes September 1 as a non-working holiday for the Kalivungan Festival in capital city Kidapawan, a week-long celebration whose name is the Manobo word for tribal gathering, first held in 1974 and combining harvest thanksgiving with indigenous heritage. First convened on May 8, 1974, the festival now anchors the province's civic calendar each September.
The word Kalivungan comes from the Manobo language and means, simply, tribal gathering, a name that sets the tone for what has become Cotabato province's most significant annual civic event.
