Yakan Festival in Lamitan

Locally known as the Lami-Lamihan Festival, this Lamitan City, Basilan celebration is held the last week of June around the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, marking the city's founding. It showcases Yakan traditional dress and weaving, especially the intricate seputangan headcloth, and traces its origin to a unifying gathering in 1886.

In 1886, a local leader named Datu Kalun, born Pedro Javier Cuevas, brought together twenty five communities across what is now Lamitan in a unifying thanksgiving gathering known as Paglami-lamihan, from the Yakan word lami-lamihan, meaning merry-making.
