Niyogyugan Festival in Lucena/Quezon Province
Niyogyugan Festival is Quezon Province's tribute to its coconut industry, held in August around President Manuel L. Quezon's birthday. Its name combines niyog, coconut, and yugyog, to sway or dance, and the festival features a street-dance competition and trade fair whose proceeds fund scholarships for coconut farmers' children.
Quezon Province's economy has long depended on coconut farming, and by 2011 local organizers decided the crop deserved a dedicated public celebration rather than remaining an unmarked part of the rural economy.
