The story

Buglasan Festival in Negros Oriental

Buglasan Festival, called the Festival of Festivals, brings together every municipality of Negros Oriental in Dumaguete City each October, uniting local street-dance traditions, food, and trade fairs that originated from a 1981 folk arts selection event. Revived in 1990 to mark the province's centennial, it now spans towns from Canlaon City in the north to Bayawan City in the south.

In 1981, Foundation University and the civic organization Balikatan sa Kaunlaran of Negros Oriental organized an activity with a narrow, practical purpose: choosing a performing group to represent the province at the National Folk Arts Festival.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Rather than representing a single town's fiesta, Buglasan is explicitly designed as a showcase of every municipality's own festival tradition, from Canlaon City in the north to Bayawan City in the south, giving visitors a condensed tour of Negros Oriental's local celebrations in one place

02

The mystery stays covered

Its origins trace to a 1981 event organized by Foundation University and Balikatan sa Kaunlaran to select a delegation for the National Folk Arts Festival, and it was later revived in 1990 to mark the province's centennial, giving the modern festival a genuine civic and academic lineage
