Mayohan Festival in Tayabas
Mayohan Festival takes place in Tayabas, Quezon Province around May 15, the feast of San Isidro Labrador, and centers on Hagisan ng Suman, in which residents throw suman rice cakes and produce from balconies for crowds below to catch. Founded in 1988 as a deliberate heritage-revival project, it also features the Parada ng Baliskog arch parade.
By the late 1980s, Tayabas town leaders felt that residents' connection to their agrarian roots and their devotion to San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, needed a more deliberate public expression than the existing feast-day observance provided.
