The story

Grunwald Days in Grunwald

Dni Grunwaldu, running since 1998 on the Saturday nearest 15 July, reenacts the 1410 Battle of Grunwald with over a thousand costumed participants staging the historic clash between Polish-Lithuanian forces and the Teutonic Knights, centered on the ceremonial handover of the two swords before combat.

On 15 July 1410, combined Polish and Lithuanian forces defeated the Teutonic Knights at the Battle of Grunwald, one of the largest and most consequential battles of medieval Europe, and a victory that remains deeply embedded in Polish national memory more than six centuries later.

02

The mystery stays covered

pl site, the multi-day Dni Grunwaldu program combines a knight's tournament with the Osada Ginacych Rzemiosl, or Settlement of Dying Crafts, before culminating in a full battle reenactment drawing roughly 1,300 to 1,400 battlefield participants and over 3,500 people across the encampment

03

The city starts moving

The reenactment stages specific narrative beats from the actual 1410 battle, including a herald delivering the two swords to King Jagiello and Grand Duke Vytautas as a formal challenge, archer volleys, infantry clashes, cavalry charges, banner-versus-banner combat, and the death of Teutonic Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen, and the event's own chapter has created a modern honor called Ad Honorem Duorum Gladiorum, in honor of the two swords, to recognize contributors to the tradition
