The story

Bieg Piastow in Jakuszyce/Szklarska Poreba

Bieg Piastow, founded in 1976 near Szklarska Poreba, is one of Europe's largest cross-country ski races, expanded since 2014 into a nine-day skiing festival on the Jakuszyce meadow and part of the international Worldloppet racing series since 2008 to the present day and every winter beyond.

Polana Jakuszycka, a mountain meadow near Szklarska Poreba in Poland's Karkonosze range, hosts a race that has grown, since its founding in 1976, into one of the largest cross-country ski events in Europe.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Held the first weekend of March on Polana Jakuszycka, the race joined the Euroloppet series in 1995 and the global Worldloppet circuit in 2008, placing it alongside legendary races like Sweden's Vasaloppet

02

The mystery stays covered

Its main distances, a 50-kilometer classic and 25-kilometer classic plus a 30-kilometer freestyle race, are joined by shorter family and evening formats including the Rodzinna Dwunastka, or Family Twelve, and the Nocna Dwunastka, or Night Twelve, alongside the Memorial Stanislawa Michonia race named for the event's first-ever winner

03

The city starts moving

Olympic champion Justyna Kowalczyk won the women's 50-kilometer race in both 2017 and 2019, and the 2026 edition marked the race's fiftieth anniversary
