Jarocin Festival in Jarocin
Jarocin Festival is a rock music festival that became, during the 1980s, the largest alternative and punk music festival in the entire Warsaw Pact, closed in 1994, and was revived in 2005 to continue as one of Poland's key rock festivals today. Running across several days each summer, the festival fills the small town of Jarocin with multiple stages of rock, punk, and alternative music acts.
Jarocin Festival occupies a singular place in the cultural history of Central and Eastern Europe: during the 1980s, it grew into the largest alternative and punk music festival not just in Poland but across the entire Warsaw Pact, a bloc of countries where independent youth culture faced far tighter restrictions than in Western Europe at the time.
