The story

Cracovia Marathon in Krakow

The Cracovia Marathon has run annually since 2002, typically each April, finishing beneath Wawel Castle in Krakow and anchoring the city's Royal Running Triad alongside a half marathon and the Three Mounds Race for runners who complete all three events each racing season without fail.

Krakow's marathon does not simply end in the city, it ends beneath one of Poland's most significant historical monuments, with the race's final stretch bringing runners to the foot of Wawel Castle and Wawel Hill, the seat of Polish kings for centuries.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Currently sponsored by Tauron, the marathon draws among the largest finisher fields in Poland, with 5,184 finishers in 2019, and belongs to both the Zlota Seria 42 national marathon circuit and the Crown of Polish Marathons

02

The mystery stays covered

Its Wytrwali, or the Persistent Ones, recognition program honors runners who have completed every edition since 2002, including a well-documented local mailman who has run all editions

03

The city starts moving

Companion events include a night 10K run, a rollerblade marathon now in its nineteenth edition, a mini marathon named for 2005 champion Piotr Gladki, and a dedicated wheelchair race, giving the weekend a notably wide range of formats beyond the standard road marathon
