The story

Lodz Marathon in Lodz

The DOZ Maraton Lodz, founded around 2013, brings roughly ten thousand combined participants to the city each spring across marathon, ten-kilometer, relay, Ekiden, and Half and Half race formats, with an annual Cheering Champion contest rewarding the most spirited spectator groups along the route.

Most city marathons measure their success purely by finisher counts and elite times, but the DOZ Maraton Lodz has built part of its identity around celebrating the people who never cross the finish line at all: its spectators.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Sponsored by the Polish pharmacy chain DOZ, the race has grown into a genuinely multi-format weekend rather than a single marathon distance, combining the full marathon with a 10K, relay races, an Ekiden-style team relay marathon format, and a Half and Half combined event

02

The mystery stays covered

Its most distinctive tradition is the Mistrz Kibicowania, or Cheering Champion contest, which formally recognizes the best and most colorful spectator groups supporting runners along the course, a rare instance of a marathon building an official competition around its own crowd rather than only its athletes
