Festival of Slavs and Vikings Wolin in Wolin
The Festival of Slavs and Vikings, held on Wolin island since 1993, is one of the largest early medieval reenactment gatherings in Europe, drawing over a thousand costumed participants for mock battles, craft demonstrations, naval combat, and sagas inspired by the legendary Viking stronghold of Jomsborg.
Wolin, a small Baltic island at the mouth of the Oder river, holds a specific place in Viking Age legend: medieval Icelandic sagas describe it as the location of Jomsborg, a fortified Viking stronghold said to have been founded under the Danish king Harald Bluetooth and later home to the legendary warrior brotherhood known as the Jomsvikings.
