Wratislavia Cantans in Wroclaw

Wratislavia Cantans is an international festival of oratorio, cantata, and choral-orchestral music held every September in Wroclaw, founded in 1966 by conductor Andrzej Markowski and staged inside the city's historic Gothic churches and Baroque concert halls each year without exception since its founding six decades ago.

In 1966, conductor and composer Andrzej Markowski, then head of the Wroclaw Philharmonic, set out to build a festival around a specific and largely overlooked musical form: the oratorio and cantata, large-scale works for chorus, orchestra, and soloists that had once filled European churches but rarely received dedicated festival treatment.
