The story

MOGA Caparica in Costa da Caparica

MOGA Caparica is an electronic music and beach lifestyle festival held each May at Praia da Morena in Costa da Caparica, about twenty minutes from Lisbon. Launched in 2021 as the Portuguese edition of a concept first held in Essaouira, Morocco, it pairs DJ sets and live concerts with sunset beach parties, surf sessions, yoga, and open-air brunches.

Costa da Caparica has long been a working surf town on the south bank of the Tagus estuary, a short ferry ride or drive from Lisbon but with a character distinct from the capital's older nightlife circuit.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What sets MOGA Caparica apart is its origin story: the name comes from Mogador, the old Portuguese name for Essaouira, and the festival began there in 2016 before Portuguese organizers brought the format to Costa da Caparica in 2021

02

The mystery stays covered

Rather than a single stage, the event spreads across sunset sea parties, surf and yoga mornings, and free OFF Parties at other beach spots in the days before the main weekend

03

The city starts moving

It positions Costa da Caparica, a working surf town rather than a resort strip, as a beach-party destination alongside better known European coastal scenes, with organizers explicit in press interviews about wanting to put the town on that map

Getting around

Plan routes around set times, late-night exits, and crowded transport after headline acts.

What to wear

Casual beachwear during the day (swimsuits, cover-ups, sandals) shifting to light festival clothing at night; bring a warmer layer since Atlantic evenings on this coast cool quickly even in...

Safety

MOGA Caparica is easier with a small bag, charged phone and group plan that survives poor signal.
