The story

O Sol da Caparica in Costa da Caparica/Almada

O Sol da Caparica is a four-day Lusophone music festival created in 2014 by Almada City Council, held each mid-August in the urban park of Costa da Caparica and billed as the biggest annual festival dedicated to Portuguese-language music held in Portugal, spanning fado, hip-hop, sertanejo, and rock across four stages.

Costa da Caparica's urban park, just across the Tagus from Lisbon, has hosted one of Portugal's largest Portuguese-language music festivals since Almada City Council created O Sol da Caparica in 2014.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Created directly by Almada's municipal government rather than a private promoter, O Sol da Caparica has built its identity specifically around Lusophone, Portuguese-language, music, spanning fado, hip-hop, sertanejo, afrobeat, pop, rock, and electronic acts across four stages over four days

02

The mystery stays covered

Its combination of concerts with beach access, camping, surfing, and gastronomy gives it a broader lifestyle format than a pure concert series, and by its most recent editions it had reached its eleventh year running, consistent with a 2014 founding

03

The city starts moving

It is a separate, distinctly branded event from Costa da Caparica's other beach festival, MOGA Caparica, which is an imported electronic-music format rather than a Lusophone-music showcase created by the municipality
