Marvao International Music Festival in Marvão
The Marvao International Music Festival is an annual classical music festival held each July and August in the walled hilltop town of Marvao, in the Alentejo, since its founding in 2014 by conductor Christoph Poppen with pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and violinist Anibal Lima. It stages symphonic, chamber, opera, and choral concerts in historic settings across the town.
Marvao is one of the Alentejo's most striking hill towns, a walled settlement perched on a granite outcrop near the Spanish border with views across the Serra de Sao Mamede.
