The story

Primavera Sound Porto in Porto

Primavera Sound Porto is a large international indie, rock, and electronic music festival held each June in Parque da Cidade, Porto, since its founding in 2012 as a Portuguese sister event of Barcelona's Primavera Sound. It has grown from around 75,000 attendees at its debut to over 100,000 per edition today.

When Primavera Sound expanded beyond Barcelona in 2012, Porto was chosen as its first major international outpost, extending a festival that Gabi Ruiz and Pablo Soler had built in Spain since 2001 around a reputation for booking acts that music critics championed even when they were not yet household names.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

As the Portuguese extension of Barcelona's influential Primavera Sound, launched in 2001 by Gabi Ruiz and Pablo Soler, the Porto edition inherited a booking philosophy built around indie, alternative, and boundary-pushing acts rather than mainstream chart pop

02

The mystery stays covered

Its 2012 debut drew about 75,000 people for a bill including The Flaming Lips, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Portuguese group Dead Combo, while its 2026 lineup of fifty-five acts includes The xx, Gorillaz debuting new material, Massive Attack, IDLES, Big Thief, and Kneecap

03

The city starts moving

Staged in Parque da Cidade, a large urban park rather than a purpose-built festival ground, it has become one of the largest music events in northern Portugal
