Vilar de Mouros Festival, founded in 1971 by Dr Antonio Barge, is widely cited as the oldest rock festival on the Iberian Peninsula. Held each August in the small Caminha-area village of Vilar de Mouros, it built its founding reputation as Portugal's Woodstock and today runs under the sponsorship name CA Vilar de Mouros, mixing legacy rock and punk acts with newer alternative names.
