Festival del Frio in Adjuntas
Festival del Frio is a February-to-March local festival held in Adjuntas, a central Puerto Rico mountain town whose cool, high-elevation climate has earned it the nickname La Suiza de Puerto Rico. The festival's name directly references the town's relatively cold temperatures, unusual for the tropical island.
Puerto Rico's popular image runs almost entirely toward beaches, palm trees and tropical heat, which makes Adjuntas, a town tucked into the island's central mountain range at roughly 2,300 feet elevation, something of an outlier.
