Festival Casals in Santurce
The Casals Festival is Puerto Rico's premier classical music event, founded in 1956 by legendary Catalan-Puerto Rican cellist Pablo Casals. Held annually in San Juan, with modern editions centered on Santurce's performing arts venues, it has featured leading orchestras and musicians for nearly seven decades.
In 1956, the cellist Pablo Casals, one of the most celebrated classical musicians of the twentieth century, agreed to lend his name and presence to a new classical music festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the birthplace of his mother, Pilar Defillo.
