Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Sibiu
The Sibiu International Theatre Festival, known as FITS, is one of the largest performing arts festivals in the world by number of events, founded in 1993 by actor and director Constantin Chiriac. Held annually each June in Sibiu, it stages hundreds of theatre, dance, opera, and street performances from companies worldwide across venues throughout the city.
In 1993, Sibiu was a historic but relatively overlooked Transylvanian city still finding its footing after Romania's 1989 revolution, and its theatre scene was largely local in scope.
