The story

Stufstock in Vama Veche

Stufstock was a rock, theater, film, photography and literature festival on Vama Veche's beach, launched in 2003 by the Save Vama Veche movement to protect the resort's original bohemian character, drawing crowds in the tens of thousands at its peak before organizers placed the festival on indefinite hiatus.

Vama Veche has functioned as an informal gathering point for Romanian artists, students and free spirits since well before 1989, a beach resort that grew its reputation on minimal infrastructure and a tolerant, bohemian atmosphere rather than organized tourism development.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Stufstock's origin distinguishes it from an ordinary beach music festival: it began as a protest and preservation project, an effort by the Save Vama Veche civic movement to defend the resort's informal, artistic, counter-cultural atmosphere against unregulated development

02

The mystery stays covered

That activist root shaped its multi-stage, multi-discipline format, rock bands alongside theater, film screenings, photography exhibitions and literature events, reflecting Vama Veche's identity as a gathering point for Romanian artists and free spirits since the communist era

03

The city starts moving

Its scale at peak, drawing over 15,000 people at its first edition alone, made it one of southeastern Europe's notable rock festivals for a period
