Altai El Oyin Festival in Altai Republic

El Oyin, meaning nationwide games, is a biennial festival of the Altai Republic first celebrated nationally in 1988 to revive Altaian culture. Held over three days in a valley near the village of Elo in the Ongudaysky District, it gathers throat singers, epic storytellers, wrestlers and horse riders from the Altai Republic's ten regions in a rotating location.

The Altai Republic, a mountainous region in southern Siberia bordering Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China, is home to the Altaians, a Turkic ethnic group whose ten constituent regions historically developed distinct dialects and local customs.
