Chukotka Beringia Festival in Anadyr/Chukotka

Beringia is a long-distance sled dog race across Kamchatka Krai and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug in Russia's Far East, first run in 1990, that in 1992 set a Guinness World Record for the longest dog sled race at 2,044 kilometers between the villages of Esso and Markovo, and remains an official Kamchatka holiday today.

Beringia takes its name from the ancient land bridge that once connected Siberia to Alaska across what is now the Bering Strait, and the race itself runs through some of the same remote terrain that early peoples crossed on foot and by sled centuries ago.
