Kraski Chuvashii Festival in Cheboksary
Kraski Chuvashii, or Colors of Chuvashia, is an annual creative competition running since 2016 that invites children, students and teachers across the republic to showcase Chuvash culture through art, photography, embroidery, dance and music. Free to enter, it has drawn record participation exceeding 9,000 people in a single year, making it one of Chuvashia's larger grassroots cultural programs.
In a region where Chuvash-language schooling and traditional craft have faced the same slow erosion common to many of Russia's smaller ethnic republics, Kraski Chuvashii took a fairly direct approach to the problem: rather than lecture young people about heritage, it asked them to make things.
