Ilmensky Bard Song Festival in Ilmeny
The Ilmensky festival of author's song is one of Russia's oldest bard-music gatherings, held since 1973 on the shore of Lake Ilmen near Miass in Chelyabinsk region. Thousands of guitar-toting singer-songwriters and listeners camp lakeside for a weekend of acoustic performances in the Russian avtorskaya pesnya tradition, alongside the mineral-rich Ilmensky Nature Reserve.
Author's song, or avtorskaya pesnya, took shape in the Soviet Union from the 1950s and 1960s among students, geologists, mountaineers and other groups whose work or hobbies took them into the field with a guitar.
