Gerber Udmurt Festival in Izhevsk/Udmurt towns
Gerber is Udmurtia's principal national folk holiday, marking the end of spring sowing and the start of haymaking. Celebrated as a republic-wide festival since 1992 and rotated annually among Udmurt towns and districts including greater Izhevsk, it descends from a pre-Christian agricultural rite later layered with Orthodox Petrov's Day customs.
Long before it became a public festival, Gerber was a working farmer's marker in the Udmurt agricultural year.
