Perm Diaghilev Festival in Perm
The Diaghilev Festival is an international multi-genre arts festival held in Perm each late June into early July, initiated in 2003 by the Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. Named for Perm-region native Sergei Diaghilev, founder of the Ballets Russes, it ran as a biennial before becoming annual from 2011.
Sergei Diaghilev, the man who would go on to found the Ballets Russes and introduce Western Europe to Russian music, dance and visual design in the early 20th century, spent part of his childhood and youth in the Perm region, where his family had estates and connections.
