Beringia is a Kamchatka dog sled race run since 1990 and entered into the Guinness Book of Records in 1991 as the world's longest such race. The 2026 edition, Beringia-Avacha, started from the V. Fatyanov biathlon complex in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and sent more than 20 mushers across a demanding 288-kilometer, six-stage route over five days.

Kamchatka is one of the most remote inhabited places on Earth, a volcanic peninsula in Russia's Far East reachable almost entirely by air, its interior dominated by active volcanoes, dense forest and, for much of the year, deep snow.
