Tom Sawyer Fest Russia in Regional cities
Tom Sawyer Fest is a nationwide Russian volunteer movement, not a single-city event, restoring historic wooden buildings that typically lack official heritage protection. Founded in Samara in 2015 by Andrei Kochetkov, it has expanded to dozens of Russian cities and villages, restoring facades with volunteer labor rather than staging a conventional festival program.
Andrei Kochetkov launched what would become Tom Sawyer Fest in Samara in 2015, built around a simple but pointed observation: thousands of historic wooden buildings across Russian cities were quietly deteriorating because they lacked official heritage-protection status, leaving them ineligible for state restoration funding and vulnerable to demolition.
