MetaFest Samara in Samara
An annual open-air music festival at Samara's Mastryukovskie Lakes, founded in 2007 by musicians who had performed at the Grushinsky bard-song festival and wanted a dedicated stage of their own for jazz, blues, folk, and reggae acts the larger festival did not showcase, sharing the same lakeside grounds on separate dates.
By the mid-2000s, the Grushinsky Festival at Samara's Mastryukovskie Lakes had grown so large, and so specifically devoted to Russian author-song, that musicians performing genres outside that tradition, jazz players, blues bands, folk and reggae acts booked onto its various side stages, found themselves without a natural home of their own.
