Drums of the World Festival in Tolyatti

Since 2004, percussionists from across Russia and beyond have gathered near Tolyatti each late June for Drums of the World, held at the Rosinka resort on the Kopylovo peninsula. Billed as Russia's largest drumming festival, it opens with a carnival-style procession in the spirit of Rio, followed by days of concerts, dance workshops, yoga sessions, a craft fair, and an ethno-cafe.

On a lakeside peninsula outside Tolyatti called Kopylovo, late June brings a sound that has little to do with the region's usual summer soundtrack: thousands of drums, played by performers who have traveled from as far as Africa and Southeast Asia to take part in what has become known simply as Drums of the World.
